ArtEd_WA Yahoo Discussion List Guideline Suggestions
It is each member’s responsibility to be aware that this is a public forum and to phrase your responses appropriately.
Address it carefully – just how many people need to read your email?
The biggest trick to making this work well for everyone is to be consciously aware of just which email address is in the To: _________
Subject Header
The next biggest trick is making sure that your Subject header: _____________ contains as correct and accurate a descriptor of the contents of an email. Sometimes an extra email about a different subject makes it easier for relevant responses. If you are starting a new thread, then indicate that by changing the subject header. If directing your email to a particular sector of AtEd then preface the subject header with Prim: or Sec: or some other descriptor.
Responding to an ArtEd_WA email
If a question is addressed to an individual, then ideally that person should be able to find that email address within the From:__ section when you hit reply to the email. Copy that email address highlight and paste it over the top of the ArtEd_WA address and hey presto personal communication. OR If you include your own email address at the end of a message it does make it easier for someone to click onto that link to make a personal response.
Email courtesy is often to delete much or all of the original email – although sometimes it works very efficiently if you are able to reply point by point with a relevant comment(s). This as much as anything is to keep emails to a manageable size and mailboxes left with space in them.
RSVPing to a Professional Learning Opportunity
Select the RSVP email address which the PL Coordinator will have included in the body of the email message.
Sending of attachments.
I have found that any email too big (which usually includes attachments, esp of large digital images), yahoo won’t allow to go through anyway. If possible, consider copying and pasting information into the body of the actual email rather than send an attachment – makes it easier to reply to as well.
Responding to Notice of a Professional Learning opportunity or Meeting
Ideally the notification of a PL session or a general meeting will contain the RSVP email of the person responsible for running that event. Please copy and pate that RSVP address into your RSVP – the rest of the ArtEd does not need to know that you can or cannot attend.
And finally… Be patient. Not everyone is on the same point of the IT Learning Curve and email etiquette. Gentle encouragement to continue following etiquette rules via a personal response is far preferable to a list based blast !!
The reality is that the List is a great way for us all to communicate.
Here’s hoping that together over time we can all learn how best to make it a user friendly tool with positive outcomes.
NB: This is a group for members only - ie no spam can get into it… but, it is what is called an unmoderated group in that all messages go directly to the group - they do not get screened first.
