PRIMARY VISUAL ART NETWORK MEETINGS – TERM 4

For all Art Teachers and interested Classroom Teachers throughout the metropolitan area.

SHOW AND TELL – come and spend a relaxing afternoon with like minded friends and share one successful project. Bring a sample and if possible a brief outline of the process involved to share.

NB: 2012 Early Bird Membership of $45 is available from November 1^st. Have a friend or colleague that was thinking of joining up next year? Why not bring them along and they can join up on the day!

WHERE & WHEN

To cater for as many teachers as possible the PD is going to be held in four different locations. All you need to do is choose the location closest to you, reply by the given date to the appropriate hostess and turn up with your fantastic ideas to share. Afternoon tea will be provided.

Cost   – No Cost for Art Ed members $5.00 for non members.

Art Blast Exhibition

When: Wednesday 2 November, 2011 –  4.30 to 6.45pm. NB: The exhibition remains open to the public until 7.00pm.

What: Art Blast is the Education Week showcase for the South Metro Education Region featuring art work from 28 Primary and Secondary schools, in the main exhibition; a Digital Art and Photography display and a Wearable Art display.

Cost: Free to ArtEd members and teachers at Exhibiting Schools. $5 for non members.

How: Sign in anytime from 4.30pm – some delicious nibbles and drinks for refreshments included, then time to browse by yourself and get a feel for the depth and breadth of the exhibition. Bring your cameras, notebooks and whatever else to help you start planning your next year’s program. 5.00pm gather for an informal tour to enable the sharing of ideas and knowledge until 6.30pm, then time to continue browsing until 7.00pm, before heading off to dinner at Istanbul if interested.

Fun, Food, Felting, Fellowship and a Fantastic exploration of symbols across a variety of Cultures. Add to that the song of birds, glorious springtime weather and a bubbling Avon River as it tumbled over rocks – the only way the weekend could have been any better was if we had one more day to work on all of the activities so generously shared by the participants. Maybe next year!

Held annually (previously under the Access Asia umbrella) and booked out every year for the last 13 years.

When: after school Friday 9 Sept. (arrive any time before 8pm) until 11am Sunday (and be home in time for lunch).

Where: Top Gate Farm, a private sprawling residence on the banks of the Avon River in a beautiful setting in West Toodyay. The property is approximately 15km on the Perth side of Toodyay, about 45 minutes from Midland. Details sent to participants prior to the weekend.

Who: Open to all educators with an interest in the visual arts. Limited to 10 participants plus Greg Harper, our cook & dishwasher extraordinaire. Currently 1 participant has pre- registered to attend; i.e., effectively 9 placements available.

Theme: Focus on Asia

Bring along your own

What:

• Mutual demonstrations (optional) and assistance or do your own thing. A possible Asian focus; details later once participants are confirmed.
• Some limited art materials provided; please bring your own favourite things
• All meals including simple meal on arrival (with wines/OJ) provided and endless tea, coffee and snacks
• Picnic lunch Saturday
• Large creative space to work in and a huge log fire
• Comfortable accommodation and outdoors areas
• 10 hour professional development certificate recognized by WACOT

Cost:

$175 all inclusive. Most participants in the past have had part or all of their costs paid for by their school.  ArtEd will handle payment and receipting.

You are invited to come and catch up with fellow Primary colleagues, check out my new art room (sadly still without a kiln) and enjoy a presentation by Sandie Schroder from Arts Basics on all the best and latest products in what the BER builders and my Principal constantly assure me is the ‘best located art room in the state’.

And Yes! I do have ocean views from my windows…. Unfortunately the roaring sou’wester comes in through the door as well !! so… if it is a nice day we can sip on some afternoon tea/wine out on the verandah as we catch up with one another. If it is a howling gale, we can sip on some afternoon tea/wine while we watch the elements from behind the safety of glass.

It seems to have taken ages to get store rooms into a workable state – and I am still working out the best configuration and use of each of the store rooms – will be great to discuss with others what works for them. Who could believe that I would need weaning from 6 small cupboards in the old art class room and another store space 15 metres away over the last 10 years where I knew where everything was, and coaxed into managing what at times feels like chaos in 3 large store rooms.

Oops!! Sorry! If you are not yet in a new art room all of the above may have you grinding your teeth in terms of – “And she thinks she’s got a problem!!”

Come along anyway and join in a fun afternoon where we can network, share stories and be inspired by what Sandie has to show us, then network some more if you have the time and opportunity over dinner afterwards in South Fremantle.

No need to bring a program to share, though you might like to come along with a list of the types and content of PD that you would like ArtED to offer to primary based Vis Art teachers.
