The original Constitution of the Art Education Association of WA (1981) no longer truly represents the workings of our current Association, especially in this modern day and age of online communication. This has become a common scenario with many Associations.
The Dept of Consumer and Employment Protection – DoCEP – has created a set of model rules (with extensive feedback from Associations ) to enable and support Associations to update their Constitution and Rules to better reflect current management systems undertaken by Associations.
The Constitution Rewrite Sub Committee started meeting in 2009 with Pauline O’Brien (Convenor), Lynda Kuntyj and Olga Mawhinney. The Constitution Rewrite Sub Committee has reformed in 2010 with Pauline O’Brien (Convenor), Ilsa Bennion, Ana Nail and from Term 3 Rachel Zimmerman.
Each Sub committee meeting we hold will have the Record of Meeting posted to the website – accessible from the Meetings Category http://arted.org.au/category/meetings/ There will also be regular updates sent via the yahoo arted_wa list requesting feedback on the suggestions made by the sub committee.
The completed draft Constitution will then be presented to the membership for any further feedback.
We will then call a special general meeting at which a motion will be put that the draft Constitution be accepted. Hopefully we will have ironed out all of the semantics and possible points of discussion prior to that night. Once accepted by a quorum at that meeting, we will submit our new Constitution to DoCEP for acceptance.
