This October holidays, the Art Education Association offered two Low Toxic Etching Workshops with Peter Lowe. We have been fortunate in the past to secure Peter’s expertise for this technique and it proved equally popular with full workshop attendance.
This was a successful collaboration between the Art Gallery of Western Australia, TAFE central and the Art Education Association of Western Australia, with the aim to deliver quality professional learning opportunities for teachers. The technique introduced etching with relatively safe methods that by pass the need for the acids many of us would remember. This makes it very user friendly in the classroom environment. The results were impressive and most returned home with samples of hard and soft ground techniques.
Peter had also organised a private viewing of etchings by many artists including Goya, Boyd and Hockney. It was a delight to see the different technical approaches from the 19th to 20th century.
Feedback from the day was unanimously positive and those teachers who were lucky enough to attend feeling like they benefited both professionally and personally from a day of creativity.
