REPORT on the Swanleigh Weekend

An amazing group of women came together in an old boarding house at Swanleigh and worked almost non stop with shifts or workers keeping the lights burning until 1.00am each night in the Drift Inn – a wet area created from the old boarding venue’s kitchen 🙂

It was a feast of sharing and demonstrating, questioning, trialling, investigating, problem solving, laughing and of course a lot of networking, eating, drinking and socialising.

Feedback included comments such as

” a wonderful informative weekend and networking. New ideas and new contacts.”

“such a beneficial time, every moment was worthwhile”

“would love to come back and continue to soak up ideas and info from some fabulous and very talented artists / teachers”

“I forgot this was PD! A real treat for me as an artist”

“What fun being the student! Hope my kids have this much fun in my art classes!”

“I am amazed at the info gained through working on projects and problem solving along the way with so much support and advice”

“Who needs outside presenters when we have such a wealth of knowledge and generosity of spirit, to make a weekend like this just work so superbly. Bouquets to all involved – presenters, demonstrators, IT fixerupperers, coffee makers, cleaners… A magic mix of people and talents.”

“Let’s do this again!!!”

Maybe a few pictures can help give you an idea of the intensity and motivation as we all moved around the designated wet and prep spaces in the Drift Inn.

A Fantastic weekend! Penny and I really enjoyed sharing the Mark Howlett Foundation Prints with the group on the Saturday afternoon. I hope that this presentation has inspired some teachers to include the appreciation of West Australian Artists in their learning programs.

Another fabulous weekend so well organised by Pauline whose diligence and positive energy is inspiration to us all. The freedom to create, share and just observe is a rare opportunity not to be missed. I feel fortunate to be able to participate in the wonderful mix of activities and social and professional networking. Thank you everyone.

    The pictures look gorgeous!
Do you still organize such events?

  4. Pauline Says:

    Hi Chris,
We have found weekend retreats to be a great way of networking and developing skills and units of work most often, using the expertise within the group attending. They are always quickly filled with members. Swanleigh is a large venue which can cater for ~ 18, while the Toodyay weekend can only cater for 8 or 9 members. The 2014 Swanleigh event was in Term 1 and the Toodyay event is in September, but is already filled.
